A Strange Day

Last night was a rather naff night.  For one, it was hot and humid.  For two, I've spent the last couple of nights with Kellie, so my normally large, cool, comfortable bed just seemed a wee bit... Empty.

On top of this, my mind was wandering to icky, unpleasant places, namely, Guys Hospital.  All I could think of was Bethy and her last days.  Every time I closed my eyes, I could see her and all the ickiness involved.

I was drifting in and out of sleep all night - strange dreams and nightmares but I think I was mostly awake, plus things were different, wrong... The people around at the time, the layouts of the rooms and everything else - it was the same but different, if that makes sense.

I think the last time I looked at the clock it was pushing 5am, and somehow, I managed to turn off my 0615 and my 0645 alarms.  Luckily, my panic button, Ruth, called and woke me up.  Did the morning school run, and went with her to see her youngest at sports day...

Nice to see the world is still as mental as ever - Sports Day once again had no winners of losers, and this year it seemed worse than before... The "track" they were running on was twenty... Maybe thirty feet long.  The kids were in teams of 8-10 so it was run, then sit and wait for all those in front of you to run.  And when I say "sit" I don't mean "pop your bum on the school field" no no, the kids were provided chairs to sit on.

One of the teachers then went into detail about how last year in the Parents Race, they let the kids run with the adults - one of the dads fell down and hurt his kid.  Not sure if it was "hurt" in as much as a bumped wee one, or if it was a "hurt" in the bad way.  So, with this in mind, the parents race - Adult and Kid.

There was no "well done" ceremony.  No winners, no losers, no certificates or anything.  Even though the kids were split into five teams, no team excelled or was congratulated.  The teachers seemed pretty much "So, what event do you want to do now?" and couldn't be arsed.

Highly Amusing...

Anyways, me bitching about all that actually cheered me up some, and after, I went back to Ruths for a coffee till she had to go out.  Once home, I couldn't get motivated, so sat listening to loud music, while kinda sorta doing housework.  I nodded off in my chair but forced myself back up or I know I'd not sleep tonight.

Did the afternoon school run, had another coffee at Ruths, came home and set up a freeview box on the telly - Jo and Steve had it knocking around, and as my Sky TV died, and I ditched Telewest, I've had no telly in the house.  Fine for me, but the kids we're best pleased ;)  Bad Daddy!  Anyways, they have TV to watch once again so that's something.

And now, I decided to clear my head a bit and blog myself out.  Obviously, I've done quite a lot of quizzey thingies - I tag all of you to do them if you're bored.  My head is back in a good place, and Kellie is here tomorrow...  As is a man about the fence - the same one that went over LAST spring.  Finally, they are going to "assess" what needs doing...

Helloooo.... I need five new fence panels, three new posts, all six feet wide and seven feet tall.  Just like the last THREE guys have said.

Amazing what snotty letters can do ;)

Figures

Just seems everything I read, hear and see is poiniont. From Futurama on the TV behind me:
Fry: Leela, about the wedding. I don't know what I did to make you love me, and I don't think I tricked you into it, but maybe I did. And if I did, I'm sorry.

Leela: It's OK, Fry. You know we'll always be friends, right?

Fry: Yeah. But I don't guess anything I could do will ever make you feel the same way about me that I do about you.

Leela: I guess not.
So far music in Asda was aimed at me, quotes I am finding, and now bloody cartoons. Ugh, time for Billy & Mandy instead.

EDIT: For crying out... Billy & Mandy episode; "The Most Greatest Love Story Ever Told Ever" which involves Nergul trying to win over Mandy and how lonely it is... Seriously, is someone sitting at the TV station watching me on my OFF Webcam?!

Kids TV

Being that I have always been a bit of a kid, I don't mind watching kids TV, even today. To be honest, I'd rather watch original Tom & Jerry or the old Warner Bros cartoons that a lot of the crap on TV today.

There are some programs that Tam and Jaysen watch that I think are pretty good. Spongebob, Ben10, Samurai Jack, Peppa Pig - I can honestly sit and watch them and not want to claw my eyes out.

On Nick Jnr of late, there have been adverts for something I've never seen. I'd seen a plushie here, or a toy there, but never thought much of it. Over the last few days, they've been showing clips of this show, and I can honestly say I have sat there, open-jawed and wondering three simple words.
What.
The.
F$ck.
Now, the version over here, like a lot of kids shows, the "fake" characters are dubbed over with English actors, but none the less...

Can someone - ANYONE - please explain to me what the hell Yo Gabba Gabba is all about. Tam sits there with an expression akin to my Three Words (WTF). One trailer has Elijah Wood (aka, Frodo) doing a Puppetmaster dance, and it looks waaaay freaky.

So thank you to the crazies across the pond - we have another of your freaky kids shows :D

Boring Post With Pee!

So, things are actually pretty quiet here of late, probably more to do with me and Jo both being poorly still, unable to shake this germ. The heating is down, the windows are open a bit, we're eating and drinking properly, but this germ wants to stay firmly rooted within us.

As Jo posted last night, Tam is getting better at figuring out when she needs to go. Usually she gets the feeling, strips off and then refuses to use the potty. Invariably, she will pee somewhere she shouldn't - the floor is the biggest victim, but the sofa has been hit in a friendly fire incident, as has Jo's computer chair which is highly amusing to me. She's hit mine too, but mine is a leather, pee-on-scrub-off deal, while Jo's is a nice absorbent sponge fabric & foam deal. It sucks the piss right up!

So yes, aside from germs and peeing, all has been well and truly dull. Heroes is still a great series and if you've not seen it, watch it, for heavens sake! We watched Constantine again last night. The first time we watched it was A) A crappy pirate copy, and B) The night we came home from hospital, so we didn't enjoy it, couldn't focus on it, and it was a bit too twisty for us shell-shocked sorts. After watching it again last night... Meh... I hear the comics/graphic novels are so much better. I actually managed to watch Finding Nemo for the first time since hospital too. The last time I watched it was the week before we lost Bethy, sitting in ICU of all places, keeping her entertained. I've looked at the box more and more of late thinking - knowing - Tam would enjoy it, and I needed to do it. So I did, and was fine. My mind jumped back a couple of times, but nothing serious.

Jo is a bit happier again now too, after the night of sobbing. I left her in bed till she wanted to get up (Which was designated by her handy dandy Tam-Alarm-Clock-System) and we pottered around tidying up, made something to eat and chilled out, and she's much perkier. Thank goodness.

All in all, everything is OK, aside from this bug!

Heroes

It usually takes me forever to notice a new TV Series, and then even longer to manage to watch it. However, way back in September I made mention of something coming out that looked very cool, despite us lot across the pond likely having to wait forever to see it. But I SO wanted to watch Heroes.

In non-Dan fashion, I kept my eye on the show, seeing the rave reviews across the land, how it captivated millions of Americans each week, and I wanted and wanted it to succeed as it'd likely struggle over here otherwise. And succeed it did, with no sign of getting canned. Hoorah.

So I managed to get my sticky fingers on the first eleven episodes, and we watched them this week. Wow. There are few TV shows that hold my interest, but this is different enough that it's all new, and familiar enough that you get a warm feeling as the stories progress. If you've not seen it, and are an American-type-person, then you can watch all the episodes online at the NBC Site. If you're here in Sunny England, then tough, it won't let you watch - you'll have to wait till BBC2 announce their show dates.

So for the first time in a long time, Yay TV!
