Remade, But...

Quite possibly, one of the more classic films of our day is The Clash of the Titans.  I don't know why exactly, but it is certainly one of my most favourite movies of all time.

Ever.

And when I say "our day" I mean people over 25 or so...  You kids reading don't know how good you got it.  And gerroff my lawn!

Now, before you start jumping up and down about the image on the left, my reasoning for it is Ray Harryhausen, NOT the subject in question.  If you don't get what I am talking about, don't worry :D

It has to be said, that remakes are, for the most part, very very hit and miss - with emphasis on the miss part.  While I have an addled brain, trying to think of any decent remakes is, for want of a better phrase, too much of a pain in the arse.

If you can think of a movie that has been remade and better, then by all means let me know in the comments.

But...

Next year, the remake of The Clash of the Titans comes out.  I've seen the teaser trailer a couple of times, and am torn...  First up, here's the trailer:

Now, this is actually quite dinky, so if you want to see it in full screen or, even better, HD, then click the video and watch it on the YouTube site.

So, they've taken the original, removed Ray Harryhausen from the equation (After all, aside from the Wallace & Grommit people, how many movies  are made with proper models any more?), and made the movie a CGI Free For All.

So, my questions (sort of) is this...  Can a remake of a classic film be better than the original?  Will it improve the story, or will it just be Hollywood needing more money, and to save on pesky "new things" just take an old thing and remake it. After all, how much word does that take?!

Yes yes, this is just a teaser and all that, but it's the principle I am talking about here.  Thoughts?
