Over the last couple of months, I've taken to listening to a couple of podcasts. Nothing major, just stuff that interests and tickles me. I often think to myself, "Maybe it'd be interesting and/or amusing to try it out" putting my own podcast out on the blog for any and all that want it. You never know, there might be someone out there that wants to hear Mr Dan babble on about nothing...For the Net-Dummies out there wondering what a Podcast is, this definition is taken direct from Wikipedia:
A podcast is a media file that is distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. Like 'radio', it can mean both the content and the method of syndication. The latter may also be termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster. The term "podcast" is derived from Apple's portable music player, the iPod. However, known synonyms for the word pod are capsule, case, container, hull, husk, shell, and vessel. A pod refers to a container of some sort and the idea of broadcasting to a container or pod correctly describes the process of podcasting. The easy version - instead of writing a post, I "talk" a post, which you then download. Seeing Christine do her Vlogcast (Video Log) last week actually inspired me even more. Even though she chickened out and used Sign Language instead of actually talking!
Of course, the big question I ask myself is, would I be able to do it? I tend to get very tongue-tied when TRYING to speak, but I've been reading a few guides here and there with suggestions for just that sort of thing, such as writing notes on what you're wanting to say, and then do it in blocks you can edit together.
Very cunning.
So here's my question to you the reader: If I were to offer an audio post every now and then, would you download it/listen to it. If so, how often would you like it? Every few days, once a week, a fortnight, a month? Or is this a bad idea?
Please leave comments with your thoughts/opinions :) Who knows - it could catapult me into fame, riches and glory! Either that, or I can send voice messages to people that give me a hard time amongst you lot... British Swearing and Cussing 101 - to your kids.
[Edit: Completely off subject, but any of you Essex dwellers that visit listen to EssexFM and heard that girl win £5000 on the RockWords contest... That would be Faith, Ruths sister. So congrats to her! And if any of you International sorts want to listen to our radio station, go to their website ;) I highly recommend the breakfast crew...]
As I want you, The Reader, to be happy, I've decided to get a bit of feed back from your good selves. I've been doing a lot of fiddling and faffing around of late with 0ddness, trying to get it just *so* in regards to looks, functionality and content. Does it look good, does it work well, do you like what you read - that sort of thing.
So here's something I've been toying with over the last week or two. See, most mornings, I check my stats, see who is coming from where, who is hanging around, who is clicking through the blog and who is just reading, and it is apparent that each day I get something like 50-100 visitors, more if I post a lot. Some 20% of these are click throughs or bots or whatever, staying less than five seconds, but the vast majority are stopping to read a post or two. Of those, maybe 20 or so are regulars - on a daily, two day or three day basis, while others arrive from search engines, and others arrive through other links on other blogs, blog catelogs or whatever else brings people here.
