Matters of the Heart

Don't worry, no mushy or worse stuff...

A few people have text/mailed to ask how Kellie is doing with her "funny turns" and if I am honest, it's the main reason I've been pretty quiet for the last couple of weeks...  Miss Kellie, for those that haven't been reading recent posts, is having what I (and, thankfully, her GP) believe are strange cardiac events.  Tachycardia (very fast heart beat) or Arrhythmia (irregular heart beat), I'm not sure which, but still...

Kellie can be working in the shop, or sat doing nothing or even laying in bed asleep, and her heart does something strange and she has these moments that last from a few seconds to several minutes, where her heart is hammering hard and fast.  It makes her feel strange, drains her energy, her fingers, toes and lips go all tingly, and her fingernails and lips turn somewhat blue... Oh, and not to mention her right arm - yes, her right arm - goes all strange and feels "heavy" and aches like she's been laying on it.

Now, thanks to Bethy, I know a fair bit about the heart, what is what, what various signs mean and suchlike.  Partly, it's a blessing because if I didn't know, I'd not have been able to kick her arse to A&E or the Doctors.  On the downside, it's a curse because I know all sorts of things that are scary.

So anyway, last week, Kellie got a letter - only a few days after her referral from the GP to the Cardiac unit.  It basically read "As your case appears urgent, we've faxed your information to a specialist and you will hear something very soon"

Now, hopefully it'll turn out to be some random virus, or something odd they can fix.  Even if they run all their tests and can rule OUT it being something cardiac, that's a plus too.

Me being me (ie, a stressy worry head), I've not been sleeping much, but the upside of this is, I am awake when she has funny moments in her sleep (which rules out the panic attack claim by certain medical professionals), and can feel her heart banging through her back onto me.  If I've managed to doze off, she's woken up herself and nudged me because she feels horrible and doesn't want to sit in the dark having her strange moments.

To add to the fun, bless her, she decided to come home from work on Saturday with germs.  Sunday to Tuesday I've had her confined to bed and, if good, allowed down onto the sofa...  As long as she sleeps.  Being that she's like one of those reeeeally stubbon donkeys you can't move no matter what, she has decided to head back to work today though.  The doctor yesterday said there are loads of germy bugs flying around at the moment, so just to take it easy.

Anyways, I've decided to poke my head up from the sand for a bit and see what the weather is like (oooh windy and raining, marvelous) and send ya'll an update.  Once we hear from the heart doctors, I will keep everyone posted on what they say.  Hopefully they won't just do an heart trace for a few minutes, see nothing and discharge her.

Well, they can try but I am fairly sure I might have one or two words with them if they try...
