Musical Monday #21 - Bleeding Love

Normally, this blog author is not one to pay attention to the Crapchurn that is the British Pop Industry. One hit wonders, generic rock, remixed/remade classics (and made to sound shite), plus the armloads of Boy/Girl bands and the wannabes (Not the S***e Girls) from the other Crapchurn that is "reality" TV - X-Factor, PopStar, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, Random People Thinking They Can Sing...

However. But. Every now and then I hear something on the radio (usually in the bakers while I am buying cream cakes for my lardy tummy) and come home humming to myself, check online and discover this person that can actually sing and actually hold a note is one of these Random People Thinking They Can Sing Because They Actually Can.

Shocking I know. Anyway, my sources tell me that Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love is one such person churned out by some mogul into the spotlight. No doubt to release three singles, an album, then spend the next ten years appearing on red carpet premiers as "The chick that won that telly programme" before fading into obscurity.

Still, I like this song!

Closed off from love
I didn’t need the pain
Once or twice was enough
And it was all in vain
Time starts to pass
Before you know it you’re frozen

But something happened
For the very first time with you
My heart melts into the ground
Found something true
And everyone’s looking round
Thinking I’m going crazy

But I don’t care what they say
I’m in love with you
They try to pull me away
But they don’t know the truth
My heart’s crippled by the vein
That I keep on closing
You cut me open and I

Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding
I keep, keep bleeding love
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
You cut me open

Trying hard not to hear
But they talk so loud
Their piercing sounds fill my ears
Try to fill me with doubt
Yet I know that the goal
Is to keep me from falling

But nothing’s greater
Than the rush that comes with your embrace
And in this world of loneliness
I see your face
Yet everyone around me
Thinks that I’m going crazy, maybe, maybe

But I don’t care what they say
I’m in love with you
They try to pull me away
But they don’t know the truth
My heart’s crippled by the vein
That I keep on closing
You cut me open and I

Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding
I keep, keep bleeding love
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
You cut me open

And it’s draining all of me
Oh they find it hard to believe
I’ll be wearing these scars
For everyone to see

I don’t care what they say
I’m in love with you
They try to pull me away
But they don’t know the truth
My heart’s crippled by the vein
That I keep on closing
You cut me open and I

Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding
I keep, keep bleeding love
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
You cut me open and I

Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding
I keep, keep bleeding love
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
You cut me open and I
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love

What a stupid comment on your blog about Leona Lewis.
This woman has serious talent and is already one of the worlds best female vocalists.
There is no way she is going to disappear in to obscurity.
Judging by the sales of her lastest single. she has a seriously large fans base who adore this amazing and sweet natured young woman.
Watch her album Spirit sell one million copies in the UK

OK, first off, why go Anonymous? Pffft.

Anyway, you're entitled to your thoughts. In case you missed it, I LIKE this song. I'd never heard of her before I heard this song, and the reason I've posted this track is because I enjoy it.

Yes, she might well have talent, but how on earth can she be considered "one of the worlds best female vocalists" when she's only known in UK and Ireland. She's not released any songs state side, and has only released two songs.

One of the worlds best? I think not.

Look over the X Factor/Pop Idol winners and where they are now. Lots of "working on new material" and similar comments. Will Young has buggered off to the states and is "working on a new album". Michelle McManus - working on a new album. Steven Brookstein - went back to singing in pubs and ferries but - again - "writing new material." Shayne Ward is still going and doing concerts, and Leona Lewis is still doing her thing. Out of all these, I'd say Will Young has made it best. Even if he has slaughtered a few classic songs.

I don't doubt for a minute that her album will sell a million copies, either CD or Download. She'll likely get to #1 as well.

But these celebrities are just throw-away stars now. They are hugely famous, massively popular, then slowly vanish into the crowd.

So, you say it's a "stupid comment", but I disagree. You can't call someone the best thing in the world when she's not done that much.

And, of course, if I am wrong, if she's still going strong in 5, 10, 20 years, you are more than welcome to come back and gloat. I can admit when I am wrong.

Your not giving her a chance, of course will young is the more successfull than leona but thats because he has been around alot longer and has has the time to build up his success. And like you said he is still around, hasnt vanished. You cant compare Leona to the rest anyway, because the rest werent in the same league as her in terms of talent. If she hadnt gone on the xfactor i doubt you would be saying she will vanish, but its a shame you cant see past your biases against reality show winners and recognise this girl has something special.

Hang on, I really dont think you're reading what I am writing.

"Your (sic) not giving her a chance"
I LIKE this song. I. Like. It.

And I wasn't comparing her to the rest of the pack - I was pointing out that the others tend to vanish into obscurity.

And now you claim I am baised. Well, I can say right here, right now, MOST of the music in the charts is rubbish. I don't do chart music, and am so far from biased as you can get. If I like a song, great, if not (which is usually the case) then I forget it. You say she's something special - only time will prove that. But as is the case with most things today, very few artists stick around.

By the way devoted readers Dan did not hear this song in the bakers it was moi that introduced him to the song in the first place. Therefore I am great and he loves me.....
