Musical Monday #107 - I Want To Break Free
Today would have been Freddie Mercury's 65th birthday.
I think we'd all be very very hard pushed to find someone on the planet that has never come across any Queen music. I think most people probably like at least one of his/their songs.
My enduring memory of Queen is the first time I met my Step Dad. John lived in a massive flat on his own, and we went over for dinner. Nerve-wracking stuff. His stereo - which was one of these "I'm a batchelor, have loads of money so spend it on technology" deals - was brilliant, all separates, and was churning out one of the various Queen albums he owned.
If I am honest, I don't remember what we ate, what we did, what we spoke about, just that Queen was playing. It has to be said, however, that when I am nervous, I focus on one thing and get on with it.
So, in memory of Freddie and Queen, todays Musical Monday is dedicated to him, I Want To Break Free.
