Where Am I?

After having read Phylis talk about his life in the RAF, and the subsequent tangent of GoogleEarth, I've been playing with the earth for several hours now. Accompanied by many glances, looks and comments from my dear woman. What she's doing out of the kitchen is anyones guess, but I digress.

The following image is something. It is something somewhere on Earth. Can you tell me what and where? Go on, you know you want to. Clicking it will make it larger.

I might not be able to write any kind of poetry, but I can find stupid pictures!

Is it the Scottish Convention centre on the Clyde in Glasgow?

It's a giant metallic bluebottle fly landed somewhere like Australia, to infect the world and create giant metallic maggots.

Scottish Alan - on the right lines.
Irish Alan - Sadly no :) But I will keep my eyes open!

The following deductions have not quite led me to a conclusion.

There is some transport interchange function at this facility, with obvious bus, train and marine passenger transport infrastructure. The large modern building , however, seems completely OTT for this so is probably a leisure or commercial facility that also attracts large numbers of peple.

There are not many countries on the planet that have so many buses as public transport within a city. I guess, therefore, that it is a former British Colony of some kind.

ALthough unclear, they may also be driving on the left of the road. I have an idea . . . give me two minutes.

I have found it - but will not post here to give others a chance to findit. My description above offers some clues!

Wow - and there's me looking at a big spanky building! Very impressive - especially compared to "Giant metallic bluebottle fly" hehehe

It looks like a port or something of that sort...however, there is an aquarium in Chicago that looks a bit like this, right on one of the Great Lakes there.
I think it is an aquarium.
Or, it is an alien from War of The Worlds...one or the other.

My first guess was the Sydney Opera House, but I know that's not right.

I will put you out of your misery tonight :) Some interesting guesses out there. I actually found it by accident while playing with GoogleEarth one afternoon!

Next time I might use something that people SHOULD recognise. I also might find things for Phylis, just to see how much he can figure from a single photo...

Dammit! And I was so sure my guess was going to be right.

Phyllis got it right. I just found it! Will I say?

I thought it was the Sydney Opera House too, first of all, then realised it couldn't be.

How did you capture the image from Google Earth?

Actually I cheated and hit print screen and then pasted it into Paint Shop Pro so I could resize and make sure there was no writing on it. You can click File and Save As... in GoogleEarth to save an image as a .jpg as well :)
