Sleepy Time #16

An interesting thing has occurred. Hmm, I can never spell that word correctly first time. Like believable. Nope, still got it wrong. Yay Spellchecker.

I digress.

Last night, as usual, I put Kellie to bed. And, as usual, I sat up entertaining myself by banging away on Facebook being a sexist misogynist, on Twitter by being a spammy spammer, all while listening to some rather good music. As usual, just after midnight, it was all I could do to keep my eyes open, but I just increased the spam-levels and the eyes remained open.

Just before 1am, I toodled off to bed, put the phone on it's cradle, checked the alarm, and, after checking the Alarm app was going to punch me in the stomach at 0600 (and it telling me "4hrs 54mins till I kick you awake") I rolled over and promptly fell asleep.

No fanfares, no fidgeting, I got into bed, laid down, snuggled down and that's all she wrote.

A Period of Time Later...

I awake in the dark with a fuzzy head. I huff, roll over and press the phone button to see if it's worth going back to sleep (ie, it's no later than 0445) and kinda stare with my unfocusing eyes at the time.

0657

Waaait a second... Laying there after being awake for less than a minute, I could tell something wasn't right. And I lay there. Then Kellie rolled over and told me off for playing with my phone in bed - it's a no no.

"It's nearly 7am." and then it hit me as I said those words. "It's nearly 7am!"

I had, apparently, been "woken" by an alarm, rolled over, turned it off - which involves coordination on the new version of HTC Sense as you have to drag an icon to a circle - at which point I clearly fell straight back to sleep.

Now, if you've read here for a while, you will know that with my insomnia, once something woke me up, that was it, I was awake. It might be 6am, it might be 1am, but once disturbed, I was awake.

I slept for almost six solid hours last night. I didn't wake up during the night, I didn't even wake up to my alarm.

Six hours. Six hours that didn't involve strong drugs, sedatives, antihistamines, alcohol or a head injury.

Granted, I didn't wake up refreshed or any less tired, but it's a start. I now know I can do it. Yes, my mind is still boggling at the fact I slept through an alarm (which, incidentally, is LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It) but tomorrow or Wednesday I get to add an hour, which means six hours sleep on a regular basis...

Can't wait!

But, at the risk of banging on about it, this Sleep Restriction clearly works. It's HARD, and if you're out of Willpower, you might have problems, but it is so obviously working, it's not even funny. I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

If you see light at the end of the tunnel it means the curtains are not drawn right.
