St Georges Day

Now, while most of my readers are American, and probably won't understand why I am so ranty, you will have to bear with me on this one. No doubt this will become a racist, anti-immigrant post, but I will do my best. If you think you might be offended, then you might want to find another website to read ;)

The 23rd April is St. Georges Day. If you've not lived in a cave your entire life, you will know that the parts of the UK each have their own Patron Saint, and St George is the Patron Saint of England. If you've been struck deaf, dumb and blind while living in a cave, you would have heard of the more famous patron of Ireland, Saint Patrick. I know for a fact that that day is heavily celebrated in a lot of the world. But St George?

Now, I am all for diversity, travel, seeing the world or whatever else, but St Georges Day is supposed to be a day to be proud to be British, fly the St. Georges Cross and do whatever else comes to mind to celebrate the fact. But for some reason, Monday passed without so much as a whistle. Just like it does every single year of late, and I really don't understand why. I know when I was at school, we'd have a St Georges Day event and do stuff relating to it, but when I asked Jaysen when he did in school, he went on about their study of Hindu Gods.

A couple of the parents around me looked like I felt, and we were all a little bit miffed. A couple of days of whining and bitching between ourselves, one brave member of the group - which had increased in size - went into the school and had words with the teacher; "Why did the kids not do St Georges Day stuff?"

The school do not want to make non-British pupils feel left out.

And so I get stroppy. Jaysens class has one British-born african kid, and one British-born indian kid. And all 35 of the kids in this class are studying Hindu Gods on St. Georges Day?! And that pretty much sums up how this country is going. We worry about every other bugger in the world except our own people. People don't want out soldiers in their country? The bring the boys and girls that are dying for someone elses country home again. You don't like our public celebrations? Go home. You don't like our religious practices? Go home. You want to build whatever buildings or statues to your gods, heroes or whatever else? Go. Home.

It really pisses me off that we're shifting and twisting into this politically correct state that is all about protecting the sensibilities of people leaving their country to come and live in ours, and then bitch and moan that they don't like something or whatever, and the government listens, it nods to everything they say. People actually get in trouble for flying a St Georges Cross or Union Jack, because apparently we're being racist?! Piss off home and fly your own flag then - I am sure if I lived in the middle east and told someone that their flag offended me, I'd end up shot.

Our schools, our places of work, and our places of social gatherings are having to shift and alter their policies because of people leaving their countries and moving into ours. We're having to change the way we speak, phrases we use - but you can bet that if we tried that in someone elses home country, we'd get told to stick it. We need a sign up at our ports and airports - Welcome to the United Kingdom - you're the guest in our home, if you don't like it, turn around now.

If our soldiers offend you, deal with your countries problems yourself. If our beliefs, flags, symbols, icons or anything else offend you in OUR homeland, either deal with it, or go home. I don't want my country changed, because it's MINE.

as an ashamed student of european history, and apparently a cave-dweller, i have to tell you...until i moved to the UK, i had never heard that there were patron saints in areas of england, and i'd never heard of st. george's day. there, i said it.

i do understand why you're pissed off, though. one of the things i loved most about england was the national pride. during the world cup, you didn't see anything but the red and white of the flag everywhere, and on everything.

while yes, we have national pride here, we're not united. we argue amongst ourselves and call those who don't agree with our views as 'unpatriotic' and it turns into a battle of who are the *real* americans.

i would be offended if the children of this country were not taught why the fourth of july is important, and i would definately be offended by what you've just described, were i a british parent.

I just read your message out loud to Karl and he says "Kick the buggers out!"

Gosh it felt good to read all that stuff out loud! Karl and I feel exactly the same way about our country. I can't believe you brits are dealing with the same "politically correct" crap that we are here in the US.

Can you believe that Arizona is adapting new policies for their police officers that only put the officers and the public in danger because we don't want to "offend" the suspects? I am appalled at some of the new policies. They are making it extremely hard for the officers to even stop a vehicle if it contains anybody that isn't white. In fact, one white dude took Karl to court trying to say that the only reason he was stopped is because he is gay. Excuse me? He didn't have a sign on his vehicle or a license plate saying he was gay, how was any officer supposed to know what his sexual preference was? This dude was showing all the signs of being a drunk driver and guess what? HE WAS DRUNK! Over .20... more than twice the legal blood alcohol limit.

The general public...
Can't live with 'em
Can't shoot 'em.

I can't even get started on "political correctness" and people not assimilating into OUR society when they move here ...
I am sick of it!

I'm sick of having to press 1 for Spanish when we speak English here in the U.S. ...
and you have to sift thru millions of pages of Spanish to get to the English portion ...

My sister was deducted 10 percent of her score when she was hired as a Dept. District Attorney b/c she didn't speak Spanish...
WHAT??? She could have had a 98 score, but got an 88...

I could go on and on and on and on...

and I'm with Nancy..
police can hardly do their jobs anymore b/c the can't "offend anyone"... give me a break...
if you're breaking the law...
you're breaking the law!!!
It doesn't matter if you're white/black/gay/Hispanic/legal or illegal!!
GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
